Programmable Thermostats Save Energy
Would you like to lower your heating and cooling costs by 10 percent? All you need is a programmable thermostat - it automatically sets back the temperature in your home to preset levels at different times of day using less energy and saving you money.
Here's how it works:
If you go to bed at 11 p.m., you can program the temperature to automatically change from 70 degrees to 65 degrees at that time, saving energy and money while you're snuggled up warm in bed.
If you wake up at 7:00 in the morning, you can program the system to increase back up to 70 again at 6:45 a.m. so it's nice and warm when you wake up. Then when you leave the house for work, at say 8:00, you can have the temperature go back down to 65 or even lower while the house is empty. And finally, the system can return the temperature to 70 just before you get home from work.
Typical programming options:
- Daily programming that allows one schedule to be used each day.
- Weekday/Weekend programming that allows different settings for weekdays and weekends, and even different schedules for Saturday and Sunday.
- Full seven-day programming that allows a different schedule for each day of the week.
Other special features may include the following:
- Vacation Override, which allows temporary override of the programmed settings.
- Keyboard Lock, which prevents unauthorized changes to the preprogrammed settings.
- Low Battery Indicator indicates whether the battery used to hold the programmed schedule is low.
- An Energy Monitor that can keep track of how many hours the HVAC system has run for any selected time period.
- An Auto Season Changeover that automatically provides heat or cooling at the onset of the heating and cooling season.
- A Filter Change Indicator that tells you when it is time to clean or replace the filter.
